Dear ,
The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) remembers and honors the great Jim "Mudcat" Grant, who passed away at the age of 85 on June 12th. Grant spent 14 years in the major leagues; was a two-time All-Star, and will be remembered as the first Black American League pitcher to win 20 games.
After his playing days, he became a published author, a broadcaster for the Cleveland Indians, and pursued his musical talents as a singer and entertainer with a group he formed called Mudcat and the Kittens. Grant was a valuable member of the MLBPAA's Board of Directors, who dedicated his life to community activism while also trying to increase African-American participation in the game. The MLBPAA looks forward to honoring Mudcat during the Minnesota Twins Alumni Day on Friday, August 27th.
We are also saddened over the loss of baseball greats who have passed in 2021. The MLBPAA online necrology is updated often in remembrance of all baseball legends.
Sincerely,
Brooks Robinson, MLBPAA President
